The Basilica of Saint Ambrogio along with the Duomo is a fundamental testimony of the sacred art of Milan.  The construction of the Basilica of Saint Ambrogio goes back to 386 at the times of the saint and has been restored and amplified in VIII and in the IX century.
In the remaking introduced during the XI and the XII century, the Basilica of Sant’ Ambrogio enriched herself with elements in romantic style particularly detectable from inside as in the atrio of the “Ansperto”.
From outside the edifice presents herself with an imposing façade with two hand bells, denominated by the “Monaci” the one on the right and the “Canonici” the one on the left.
On the inside we can have a high regard for works of art of high prestige of the which we name: “Il Sacello di San Vittore in Ciel d’Oro” from the IV century, deign of a special notice for the mosaics of the V century which covers it, and the major alter work of art from the master Volvino from 835 realized entirely in silver, gold, hard stone and smelted by the master.
On the left side of the Basilica of Saint Ambrogio we have access to the portic of canonica, a zone of the basilica realized in 1492 by Bramante for Ludovico di Sforza said the Moro and from the on called like this because destinated to the Regular Canonici.
The piazza of Saint Ambrogio is easily accessed with public transportation and nearby we can find various hotels of different categories.
